My work is centered around the human figure.

I want my painting to embody an emotional response to the person or persons observed. I wish to tap into their poetic essence, to search out their rhythms, their flow, their gestures, the essentials that give expression to the person's character and in so doing give energy and strength to my painting.

Sometimes the figures are exotically presented with high hats, long gloves, all the plumage of exotic birds, sometimes the figures dance as if caught in flight, usually painted in heightened colour. I like the colours to melt into the subconscious and not to be a slave to mechanical representation. The idea is to enrich the image and enhance perception.
